·         CHANGE IN DATE OF AGM: Please note that the EDENSC AGM 2018 is scheduled for Thursday 7 June 2018 in George;

 

·         SPORT ARTICLE: Attached please find and informative article on sport by Elma Davis – courtesy of the EDENSC Coaches Commission;

 

·         DCAS CHEQUE HANDOVER 2018:  17:00, Civic Centre, Riversdale.  Designated federations will receive invitations from DCAS.  Only federations in compliance will received funding and there are some potential recipients who still have to submit certain documents [proof of registration and completion of achievements of 2017 Transformation Scorecard, Letters of Good Standing, Case for Sport Questionnaires, Audited financial statements, etc.]. Federations who have not completed their 2017 TMC Scorecards can request JP Naude [ jp@strategicmedia.co.za – 082-4445599] to re-open their portals to complete it. Some federations only registered, some did add their targets but did not complete the achievements.

 

·         SUSPENSION: EDENSC is in the process of suspending members that does not comply – starting with the members that is not paid-up yet;

·         No motions or nominations for the vacancy of secretary was received.

 

·         The audited financial statement will be circulated to all members as soon as it was signed off by the EXCO.

With the help of all the EDENSC Members a successful AGM could be hosted.  81,3% of the affiliated members were present – many thanks! Just a reminder to the rest the 18,7% who did not attend – you ate forfeiting compliancy points that may be detrimental to your Letter of Good Standing needed late.  Please also note the following:

 

1            COMPLIANCY    Attached find the latest compliancy criteria.  This is absolute important that there be adhered to this for future reference

 

2            EDEN SPORT AWARDS   Just be reminded that the event is scheduled for 27 July 2018 in Oudtshoorn. Also, make an effort to nominate your Legends – the “forgotten” ones who really gave their all to the sport in the olden days!  Please go and find them and nominate them!  Please also let us know about the sport persons in your code that passed away since 27 July 2017 – nominate them as well!  Nominations close on 22 June 2018.

 

3            MEMBER STATISTICS     EDENSC are required to often submit statistics on their members and at present we would like you to please submit the attached figures we need.  Please do so before Friday 22 June 2018.  Just complete the applicable on the attached form and return it asap.

 

4            MUNICIPAL SPORT FESTIVALS    The EDENSC urge all members to request their clubs to partake in the 4 sport festivals in the Eden District – Knysna Oyster Festival, Oudtshoorn Youth Sport Festival, Mossel Bay Sport Festival and the George Show Development Sport Festival.  For more info please contact Dave van der Walt.

Dear EDENSC Member

Attached please find the application form, the EFT form and the DCAS Cover Letter for the next term of funding applications. We also attached the guidelines for Ad Hoc funding as well as the EDENSC compliancy document. Please just note the following:

·         Please study the Covering Letter and Application form in depth;

·         Closing Date:  strictly 30 September 2017;

·         Make sure that all the relevant documents are included and completed in full when submitting the application;

·         Send the electronic version of the application and documents to the designated person but also copy EDENSC in for monitoring purposes;

·         The EDENSC has again organised the DCAS Funding Team for HQ to assist our members.  This will take place on 12 September 2017 in George at ETA College, Langenhoven Road and will be by appointment.  We will forward you a roster to make your booking for the day.  They will be available from 09:00 up to 20:00 that day.  Complete your application form in full and leave just the parts blank where you are not sure of.

·         WOMEN SPORT DAY: Attach please find the poster for the Women’s Day programme for Thursday 23 Aug 2018 at Van Kervel School, George.  [14:00 – 19:00]. “Boeresport” & Indigenous Games can be partaking in. Federations are invited to send their women & girls to compete in teams of 5!  Contact person:  Anita Barnard [082 6808 405];

 

·         DCAS FUNDING SUPPORT WORKSHOP:  we refer back to the earlier email on this matter.  Please forward your federations representatives for the workshop in Oudtshoorn on 22 Aug 2018;

 

·         WC LEGENDS NOMINATIONS:  Please note that the closing day for this nominations is Friday 20 August 2018!

 

·         EDEN RURAL GAMES SPORT DAY:  This will take part in Pacaltsdorp.  On Saturday 18 Aug Netball, Football & Athletics [Cross Country] will take place and Rugby on 25 Aug 2018 – please support them!

 

·         KNYSNA SPORT DEVELOPMENT: Virgil Kortje, Sport Development Coordinator of the Knysna Municipality, invites all sport federations to make use of their offer to host development clinics & courses in Knysna.  They are willing to financially assist these federations.   1. EVENTS & DATE LISTS:  This is a very important document in the strategic planning of 2017 for EDENSC and we request that you please forward me your federations/municipal sport council/commission’s major dates:  eg AGM dates, Event Dates, Sport Awards/Function dates, international, national & provincial dates.

  2. CHANGE IN CONTACT DETAILS: if there are any changes in the contact details as on the attached Members Contact Detail List, please inform us in full – name, position, cell no, email address.

  3. DCAS/EDENSC TRI-LATERALS: [only for the federations that received DCAS funding in 2015/16]: This is scheduled for 25 Jan 2017 [Oudtshoorn – Eden Sport Academy] and 26 Jan 2017 [George – King George Hotel].  The EXCO, but at least the full MANCO, must attend and it must also include your school sport representative.  Attached please find the template to be used. Federations that form part of the Club Development Programme must include their reporting on it in their presentation.  Please make sure that your presentation is ready and on time.

  4. AFFILIATION 2017: Up to now only 34 federations and 1 municipal sport council have paid their affiliation [R400] for 2017 which was due before 25 November 2016. Please do so asap.  Attached for your convenience again the bank details.

“We are happy to announce that LJ van Zyl, SA Olympic champion will be competing against his wife Irvette van Zyl, who is a seasoned long distance athlete for an exhibition race in Hartenbos”, says Sasja La Grange, Marketing and Communication Manager at Bestmed.

 

“At Bestmed our sponsorship strategy is to encourage our members to actively pursue a healthier and more active lifestyle through our five health pillars which include: Be Active, Be Nutrition Wise, Be Financially Fit, Be Safe, and Be Happy. To this end, we will run free health screenings at the end of each race at the Bestmed health tents for all members”, adds La Grange.

 

Some of the top South African men’s athletes that have committed themselves already include Dumisane Hlaselo,  Elroy Gelant [Rio Olympic finalist]; Amos Nyongo from Transnet Port Elizabeth that beat Johan Cronjé’s route record with his record of 3:52,99 last year;  Jerry Motsau from NWU Pukke, previous winner of the Klein Karoo Street Mile and winner of  Tom-Tom Tembisa Street Mile in a record time; Dullan Solomons; Thabang Matiwane; Henry Makane, Thandi Sehohle [UJ], Keso Molotsane (Kovsies) and Godfrey Mothapo (Tembisa AC).

 

Johan Cronjé, who is a true ambassador of the Eden Street Mile Series, is recuperating after an operation – he won’t be competing, but his presence at the series is greatly appreciated!

 

Some of the top women athletes participating include Simoney Weitsz [KPMG], the series winner of 2015; Chantel de Lange [all the way from the Netherlands], Leanda du Bruyn [from California], Icarien van Deventer (Tygerberg), Amy Abrahams (UWC), Anneline Roffey (FNB Multisport), Kesa Molotsane (Kovsies) – who according to her coach, DB Prinsloo, has improved and of who he has great expectations for the series.  Anuscha Nice, the previous winner, is also recuperating from an injury and won’t be competing!

 

The clubs and training groups that indicated their presence, are Kovsies, PUKKE, FNB Multisport, Endurocad of Elana Meyer, Willie Engelbrecht’s Zwarries Group, Norman Ontong’s Fit2Run Group from Worcester, Riversdale’s SuperKids and Cecil Roffe’s Group!

 

The first leg of the series is hosted in Oudtshoorn and is known as the BESTMED KLEIN KAROO STREET MILE. This will take place in Baron van Reede Street on Saturday,17 December 2016 which will kick off at 09:00 with the cycling races and at 10:00 with the running. Registration can still be done from 07:00 that morning.  The prize-giving ceremony will start at 11:00 in front of Karoopot. 

 

The second leg is scheduled for Tuesday 20 December at NMMU: George Campus and is known as the BESTMED MADIBAZ GEORGE STREET MILE. It will start at 10:00 and registration can still be done from 08:00. The prize-giving ceremony will also be at 11:00 at the pavilion.

 

The third and final leg will be on Thursday 22 December 2016 in Hartenbos. The BESTMED-ATKV STREET MILE will start at 08:30 and registration can still be done from 07:00. Also the registration of the family fun race will be done on the morning of the race. This race is scheduled for 09:15! The prize-giving will also be at 11:00 at the ATKV Amphitheatre.

 

The cycling races for the first time this year forms part of the BESTMED KLEIN KAROO STREET MILE. According to Corné Bence, chairperson of EDEN and Western Cape Cycling, the intention is to build this out next year and to even include crit series! One of the top women riders in South Africa, Anriette Schoeman, indicated that she will be riding in Oudtshoorn.  She will be joined by some of South Africa’s top junior and elite riders!
